Some of the Many Types of Gym People

The Myriad of Gym Goers

There are lots of different people who go to the gym and some just stand out more than others. Plenty of people come and go and their workouts are over with before you even knew they were there. Some others... Well, they just make an impression on other gym goers.

The Grunter

Some people make noise when they lift. They breathe heavy, they strain, they groan. Some other people, well, they make a show of every single lift. The primal grunting that comes from these people makes sure everyone knows what they are doing and where they are doing it at. You either can find it entertaining or highly distracting. For a few people that may be new to a public gym, this might be a little intimidating. HRAAAAAUGH!  ONE! HRAAAAAUGH! TWO!!!

The Narcissist

This breed of gym patron spends more time taking selfies while sitting on the machines than actually using the machines. Other times these people are more concerned with how they look in the mirror than how much they are actually doing while in the gym. We should all go work out today! Wait... Lemme take a selfie!!

The Phantom

This elusive creature has sometimes paid for months for a gym membership and may have never even taken one step inside. Most of these invisible gym goers started out strong... for a week... then they are always "gonna go to the gym". Yep! definitely gonna go to the gym... Starting Monday...

The Weight Dropper

Nothing will make a louder noise and prove to be a bigger distraction than this gym member. An over zealous Grunter might give this one a run for their money, however, the giant crash of some uncontrolled dumbbells or the drop of a barbell after a set of power cleans can startle just about anyone. Remember kids, if you can't control your weight all the way up and all the way down, you may want to switch to something lighter. The poor floors will thank you.

The "Personal Trainer"

The personal trainer in the subheading is in quotations because this person really just thinks they are a trainer. This is the guy or gal who walks around telling everyone about how their way to workout is the best way. Need a spot, bro? Not only will they give you the spot but a bunch of unsolicited information about how you can get a better workout if only you listen to them. C'mon man, don't you wanna get the best from your workout?

The Watcher

Do you need to use the deltoid machine near that TV? Too bad because the Watcher is on that machine right now and is mindlessly doing reps at about one-quarter of the weight they should be using. The inviting glow of the tv is just too much temptation for some people and they lose track of what they should actually be focusing on in a gym.
